Chevrolet Camaro

Let’s cut right to the hyperbole: The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE is a rolling manifestation of Bruce Springsteen’s most celebratory lyrical fairy tale, the “all-American boy with a nose for trouble finds his way by means of a pushrod-V-8–powered muscle car with a weary but naturally beautiful girl in the passenger seat.” Born from the same humble two-door-coupe blueprint that launched the Camaro50 years ago, it’s the everyman’s super-Camaro: a 455-hp, apex-craving monster that rings in with a $44,400 base price ($6500 for the SS 1LE Performance package on top of $37,900 for the 1SS coupe). That’s $16,435 less dear than the expected $62,135 sticker for the 2017 Camaro ZL1, and it will likely undercut the price of the upcoming 2018 Camaro Z/28 by even more. While we’re talking matters of finance, the only other option on our test car was a performance data recorder for $1300, which brought the as-tested price to $45,700. It may not be free, but it’s at least attainable for most aspiring part-time track rats.

A New Era in Performance

In 1966, Chevrolet introduced the world to Camaro and a love affair was born. Now, after 50 years of pushing the envelope, advanced performance technology, meticulous design and engineering mastery come together in the sixth-generation Camaro. With refinements that can be seen in every sculpted bodyline, felt in every turn, and heard in the roar of the three available powertrains, the sixth-generation Camaro is the lightest, leanest, and meanest Camaro yet.

Sculpted to Perfection

Built around a smaller, lighter architecture than the previous generation, the 2017 Camaro takes full advantage of its tighter proportions with more responsive braking, better attack in and out of corners, and more nimble performance. The smaller, more athletic sixth-generation Camaro also features a fastback profile and more pronounced quarter panels, creating a road presence that’s hard to ignore.

Chevrolet has showcased its 6-generation sportscar, Camaro at the ongoing 2016 Indian Auto Expo. Mechanically, Camaro features a 6.2-litre V8 powerplant that produces 455bhp of power output and 617Nm of peak massive torque. The sportscar is available in both coupe and convertible options and it features a left-hand drive only. This unit comes coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission, along with an option of 8–speed automatic gearbox. The Camaro’s engine produces 43bhp more than Ford’s Coyote engine, which also performs its duties  in Mustang GT sportscar. Camaro weighs around 1514kgs as compared to Mustang’s 1601kgs (approximate), which turns it lighter and results in improved power-to-weight ratio.
