Lotus Evora Sport 410 (2016) review by MotorPlace
Lotus Evora Sport 410 Is Lighter, Faster, Better, Amazing
If you read our recent Performance Car of the Year test, you’ll know that the Lotus Evora 400 was loved by everyone in the test. It finished second among a field of cars from automakers that have more than a shadow presence in the US market.
Just two of us chose it to win overall honors, but I was one of the two. The Evora 400 made an indelible impression on me. And that’s why I’m so excited to learn that Lotus will start selling the Evora Sport 410, the even faster, lighter, and more focused (more focused?) version of the Evora 400 in the US next year.
The rear tailgate is carbon and has louvers now, just like some older Esprits. They’ve spent time on the aero, and now it makes 141 pounds of downforce, effectively double what the standard car makes. It’s also lowered the drag coefficient and top speed is up to 190 if you opt for the manual gearbox.
The automatic will get to 60 slightly quicker than the manual (3.9 vs. 4.0), but the top speed of the auto is just 177.
The best news? North America will get the Evora Sport 410 next summer, likely with a little-added weight due to our safety standards. Pricing hasn’t been announced yet, but expect it to be somewhere in the $110,000 range. I will sell all I own for one.
[huge_it_share]Now, you’re probably wondering what the “Sport” and the “410” refer to with the updated name. Well, the eagle-eyed amongst you may have already guessed it, but the 410 refers to the power that the supercharged Toyota V6 will be putting out in the new car. It’s just 10 more than the regular Evora 400, which is nothing to write home about, really.
What actually matters is the word “Sport.” This refers to the fact that this Evora is somehow even sportier than the regular old Plain Jane Evora 400. How is it sportier? Let me fill you in.
Lotus has cut weight from the already light Evora by another 155 pounds, making the dry weight 2800 pounds (if you spec the titanium exhaust). The lower weight means that Lotus has retuned the suspension to make it handle even better. Lotus says even with the lowered ride height and retuned suspension, the ride comfort remains the same.
